Camp Journey NW
Created at Blackbird Digital
Camp Journey NW gives children impacted by cancer the chance to experience summer camp without their diagnosis defining the week. Their completely free, medically supervised camp combines traditional summer activities with the support needed to create a safe space for kids to have fun, build friendships, and simply be kids.
During my time at Blackbird Digital, I had the opportunity to design for Camp Journey NW across several projects, beginning with the superhero themed 2025 Sweethearts’ Ball and continuing into 2026 with a complete website rebuild and a new direction for the annual fundraiser.
2025 Sweethearts’ Ball Logo System
The 2025 Sweethearts’ Ball went all in on superheroes. I created a custom comic book inspired identity along with several alternate logo treatments inspired by recognizable superhero aesthetics.
Halftones, stars, motion lines, bold typography, illustrations, and comic book graphics created a flexible system we could carry throughout the entire event.
2025 Sweethearts’ Ball Website
I designed and built a dedicated website that brought the superhero identity online. This was one of my first website builds, and I had the opportunity to carry the colors, illustrations, patterns, and comic book elements throughout the entire experience.
The site gave guests one place to explore the event, purchase tickets, view sponsorship opportunities, and find important information.
2025 Print & Event Design
The superhero world continued into the event itself. I designed the event program, sponsorship materials, table cards, promotional pieces, and photography backdrop.
We carried the theme into the smallest details, from turning the evening schedule into “Tonight’s Mission” to giving each table its own superhero team and elemental identity. The creative freedom throughout this project made it one of my favorite event systems to design.
2025 Social Media
I also carried the superhero identity into social media, creating graphics to promote the event, share important information, and build excitement leading up to the Sweethearts’ Ball.
The posts used the same comic book elements, typography, and visual style as the rest of the event, keeping the experience consistent from promotion through the night itself.
Camp Journey NW Website
In 2026, I completely redesigned and rebuilt Camp Journey NW’s website. The previous site was difficult to navigate, contained broken links, and relied on low resolution graphics.
I reorganized the content, created new illustrations, and built a clearer and more engaging experience for campers, families, volunteers, and supporters. We also made the new site easier for the Camp Journey NW team to update themselves.
2026 Sweethearts’ Ball Logo
For 2026, the Sweethearts’ Ball traded superheroes for the circus.
I created a new circus inspired identity centered around a striped big top, marquee typography, stars, and playful details, along with simplified versions that could adapt across different applications.
2026 Sweethearts’ Ball Website
Instead of creating another standalone website, we brought the Sweethearts’ Ball directly into the newly rebuilt Camp Journey NW site.
I designed a dedicated event page using the new circus identity, giving the fundraiser its own personality while making its connection to Camp Journey NW much clearer and giving the organization one less website to manage.
